OK.. I give up. I'm coming to the professionals! There is a local pawn shop that has a really nice looking Ibanez Prestige model and I want to know what kind it is. I mean.. does Ibanez make a prestige version of ALL of their models??
From the serial it looks like Japan 2002 (f02.....) so I looked in the 2002 catalog and the only guitar that looks close is an RG470. Its in a sparkly dark blue finish. Has prestige on the neck.. dot inlays. Rosewood board H/S/H and no pickguard.
I'd bet the farm on it being a RG470 BUT I can't find that there were 470 prestige models on the net anywhere.
I have never owned ibanez, just USA Jacksons and BC RICHS, Fenders, Gibsons, Wolfgangs, etc etc. I'm completely ignorant on Ibanez. I just knew that when I felt that neck I wanted it.
Is it worth the 475.00 he wants?? Doubt it, but it would be nice to prove to him what model it is and hence, the value.
Any help that anyone would be able to provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Well, firstly, welcome to the forum. A true "Prestige" model RG guitar model number will have four digits, not three, unless it's neck-thru, so it can't be a Prestige RG470, those don't exist. Does it say "Prestige" on the headstock? It sounds like it's an early model RG1570, all the specs pretty much match up. In that case it would be worth the $475 asking price, as that's about half what they go for now. A little fun fact about Ibanez serial numbers - if the guitar neck was poduced late in a given year, it did not make it out into the wild till the year after.
Another fun fact is that the RG1570 was introduced in 2003. In silver and a color called royal blue. See the catalog of 2003, page 6, there is only a picture of the silvery one.
Let's combine. You have found one of the earliest RG1570 it seems, built in 2002 for the following year's release. Which is not spectacular ;), but if it's in good condition then the price is nice. Try haggling it down maybe :). And ask if they got a case for it.
What farm did I win?

WOW! You guys are ON IT! Awesome info. The serial is f0242973 if that helps any. I may have to try and haggle the guy down. Only thing that I can see wrong with it is that there is a "chip" out of the end of the rosewood right beside the 24th fret, a few small dings here and there.
The frets have zero wear but DEF needs some TLC. If I snatch it up I'll post some pics!
Thanks again for the quick and informative responses!

Fretboard damage is a great value breaker, that could be an argument to haggle.
If you get a chance, also compare the pickups that are in the guitar to the ones in the catalog, to check if they are still original.
Further, if possible, see if you can plug the guitar in to check if the pots, switch, etc. are still fine. Check for fret wear. Also run your hands along the fretboard border to see if any frets are sticking out, which can happen when the neck shrinks slightly due to bad storage of the guitar (but that is usually more an issue with older instruments).
