Hi All!
For some reason the search feature of the forum seems to be down, so please excuse me if this is a repeat question.
I purchased a new SR505 about 2 months ago (From Guitar Center). It is now time for some new strings, however I'm having some problems with this.....
The bass came with a "taper wound" B string, and I can't seem to find a set with this type of winding. I have found various single strings, but no sets. I rather not buy a 4-string set, and then the additional 5th string if I can help it, does anyone have any ideas?
Could this bass be strung with a traditional set of strings, then adjust the saddle height for the new B string?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know Carvin strings, several La Bella sets, as well as Dunlop and Sadowsky strings have sets with a taper wound B. Though, it's perfectly fine to use a non-tapered string. It's all about personal preference. As MaxOfMetal says, the Carvin 5011 strings have a tapered B. (the picture is a link) They cost about $15 a set.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the quick responses!
I'm going to go ahead and try setting up my bass with a set of "Ernie Ball Power Slinky" we'll see how that goes....If all else fails I'll try a set of those Carvins..
Thanks again!

D The Ernie Ball bass strings are pretty nice, I have several of my basses set-up with them. Definitely some of my favorites. I've had replacement of the factory elixirs work great for the longest, and the slinky's too. My next stop is for personal reasons either a set of DR Black Beauties or a custom set from CircleK.
SR505 -- Organic tone, going deep and pure with Bartolini Crate 220 - adequate starter head with decent EQ Ampeg SVT-15E cab - my low notes are pure! Possible future head upgrade: SVT-3pro or -4pro (when my ship comes in.... ;-)) Possible future cab: SVT-18 (true!) or AccuGroove El Whappo Grande (even deeper) denizen of forums at extendedrangebassist dot com

You don't have to put taper-wound strings on just because that's what the bass came with. But you may have to lower the bridge saddle a bit if you don't.
That being said, the Fender 8250-5 sets have a tapered B string. $26 at juststrings.com, but I think I've seen them for less elsewhere. I like the sound; fairly warm.
