i have an 08 s470 and after a year of wondering i finally came across the problem with it. the pickups arent lined up. how did i not notice this sooner. the neck pickup is 1-1.5mm higer than the bridge one. i heard there were many problems with the newer guitars and here is mine. so not a perfect one to date. not sure if this can be fixed though would mean stripping it down and modifying the body.

When you mean "higher" do you mean they are off center, or do you mean the pickup itself is protruding upwards?

If you mean the misalignment then yes, it is a screw up, and it's been noted on at least two or three other guitars. IT can be fixed as easily as sliding over the pickup ring a little bit and filling/re-drilling new holes. The pickup ring should be thick enough to cover up the old holes, especially if it's only off by about 1.5mm. The route is centered, as a CNC machine makes the body, what is off is the pickup ring.

well the strings are central with the bridge pick up but the neck pickup is slightly off which is how i found out. would it be better to get a shop to fix it?

It's an incredibly simple fix, all you have to do is fill in four screw holes with wood shards and filler, then re-drill the four holes, according to you, just about 1.5mm over. Should take about 10 minutes, not counting the dry time on the filler.

If you feel that you'd rather have a shop do it, that's fine, no shame in doing so if you feel they are more qualified, not to mention if you have the cash, as it won't be free.

Have you unscrewed the pickup ring and moved it over to see if it will still work in the route?

All the cases of this I've seen have only needed the pickup ring moved over a little, none required completely new routing, at least that I know of.

if i move it perfect i see about half of the original holes. would it be possible to fill them and drill them again slightly up without messing up the filler?

As long as the filler is completely dry, and you use a few small wooden shards to full the hole as well, re-drilling will be no problem at all. As for the drying time, you'll have to see what the filler you use recommends.

As for the aesthetics, if the filled holes show, then go to a local beauty supply store and find a nail polish that matches the color around the screw hole. Use some thinner to make the nail polish a little transparent, and then apply a few coats. Then put a single coat of clear. If you take your time, the filled screws will be invisible.

If you have all these problems, why didn't you return the guitar when you originally bought it?

my pickups aren't lined up correctly either (mik s320), and because you can't tell that easy that they are offset i didnt replace the pickup rings,
i bent over the pickup attachment a little so they line up better, difference is very very very little..
i don't bother

taken my guitar into the repair shop today and its having a setup done. he said it sounds quite mucky on the first two frets but its seems to be one of the better ones. also there is minimal fret buzz on the bass strings until about the 15th fret. so i think it is a minor truss rod adjustment and a slight raise of the bridge on the bass side and its done and dusted.
