Has anyone done it? Does it fit? Does it sound better?

Never on a RG2228 but all of my EMG equipped guitars have the 18v mod. EMG's run at 9v have a compressed tone with a scooped midrange. With the 18v mod the instrument will have more mids and more dynamics with less compression. Not better or worse, just different. It's an easy mod and can be undone just as easily.

http://www.instructables.com/id/EMG-18-Volt-Mod/ Here is one of the many instructions found on the web to do the 18v Mod. I check the back it looks like you can just exactly fit one more battery :)

this thread poses a very interesting question . . . I'd like to hear what an 18v modded RG2228 would sound like . . .not like EMG's are crap p/ups when one thinks of what ibanez could put in these guitars (just had a nasty thought of them doing a PSND 8 or something)

however if anybody knows of some sound clips I'd be interested in hearing this in action

EDIT: for those who don't know what the 18v mod is, it's where you use two nine volt batteries at once to power the EMG's . . . gives a different sound. I'm not sure I'd do it though, I like how emg's do thier thing although their particular sound certainly isn't for everybody

MAKE SURE YOU TAPE OR USE HEAT SHRINK ON THE WIRE TO WIRE CONNECTIONS!!!

"Using a push pull pot (DPDT switch) in the middle of the diagram, the advantage of which in 9V the batteries drain equally."

If you were to use a center off toggle switch it would turn the electronics off without unplugging.
