I know!! I know!! Confused should be my middle name, whats new right???
Any hoo I kinda got the quality thing figured out by the model # 2XX,3XX cheap,4XX better,5XX-> best.
RG7321?? It is a high number. It is also a 7 string. so does the 7 in the model # mean 7 string and the 321 would be the comparable to a RG300 series?? I ask because I see a couple for sale and I also see wher it has a C in the serial # and I see Made In Korea.
I assume they don't make anything high end in Korea??

Yeah, 7s are where the model numbers get little tricky. You're right though, take the "7" in RG7321 out of the equation, and consider it to be a 7-string version of the RG321, as in "3xx" level quality "x2x" as in H-H pickup set-up, and "xx1" as in fixed bridge.

I hope that clears everything up.

WOW. I had no Idea those other #s meant stuff too. I will have to go to those links again you have posted to me and read some more I bet that info is in there somewhere. OK let me see if I get this right.
RG570 "5XX" level quality "X7X means H-S-H and then "XX0" means floating trem??
I bet I have saved enough sites and links and pdf's etc. to read for a week or more I guess I should dig in.

Well there are exceptions to all rules, and one of them is that the middle number for instance the "7" in an RG570 and the middle "5" in an RG550 actually represent how the guitar is routed. They are both H-S-H guitars, but the RG570 is rear routed (no pickguard), and the RG550 is front routed (has a pickguard). A lot of it has to do with the time period the guitar was made in.

Here are some easy pointers that are usually right. With Ibanez, there are exceptions to every rule.

RG Series:
3xx Lower level, non-Japanese made.
4xx In the "Golden Age" MIJ, now MII.
5xx Was the best value to feature ratio in "Golden Age", not it doesn't exist.
6xx Higher level than 5xx, usually had exotic woods.
7xx Far higher aesthetics, the highest in the RG series.

x2x Usually denotes an H-H pickup set-up. Always rear routed.
x5x Means top routed.
x6x Means H-S pickup combo.
x7x Means rear routed

xx1 Means fixed bridge, any type.
xx0 Means trem of any type.

RG Is the standard with regular headstock and bolt-on neck.
RGR Has a reverse headstock and bolt-on neck.
RGT Has a neck thru joint.
RGA Has an Arched top.
RGRT Is both reverse headstock and neck-thru.

x1x Denotes a "special model".
x8x Denotes a special or limited model as well.

That's all of the standard non-Prestige RG numbers.

That was great thanks. I will copy that and add it to my info collection. I should start my own web page with all my info I have collected so far lol.
Hey I got a kinda similar question its about routing. On my body I have now I have H-S-H and the neck PU has a hole to the right bottom where the wires go and it runs to the right and down through the middle pu cavity then stays on the right corner and goes into the bridge cavity then exits to the right into the control cavity.
Now my aquired body(98 RG570)it has the holes for the wires down the very middle of the PU cavitys. why do they run it under the other pu's rather than down the right side and out into the control cavity?? will that effect any tone?? cause any issues with wires under the pu's??
I would think you would want them off to the side like on my current body rather than directly under the PU's. I also would think that vibrations etc. could cause the wires to rub on the metal of the PU's and short out

I've never really found the placement and execution of the wire route to be a factor in either performance or tone. As long as the wires are cut to the proper length, and are adequately shielded then there's nothing to really worry about. Small details such as this are made the fastest, easiest, and most efficient way possible with the given tools. That's probably why you have two different bodies with two different routing schemes, I wouldn't over think it.
