Hey guys, new to the Ibanez forum (first thread Dance ) and to Ibanez guitars as well and I was looking at the RG3620Z and I noticed that it had a "super wizard neck". I am just wondering what it is (neck-thru? bolt on? etc).

I think it's supposed to be thinner than the Prestige Wizard, Wizard 2, etc. necks from last year. Am I right on that?

It's a slightly enhanced version of the Original Wizard neck. This neck was 17mm to 19mm, probably the thinnest mass produced guitar neck you could buy. Not only thin in depth, but also thin in width, being 56mm wide at the 12th fret compared to the 58mm width of most of Ibanez's current necks. Also is regarded has having a nicer shape to the back of the neck as well as a flat radius fretboard for lower action.

The Super Wizard has all these things but is typically slightly thicker at the 12th fret (slightly over 19mm, but not quite 20mm) due to the AANJ socket (original Wizards were block heel, though some later AANJ ones did exist). It also has either one large Bubinga stripe running down the back of the neck to give it extra rigidity and strength, or two stripes of bubinga in a five piece design and a volute (the J Custom version). The one stripe (3 piece neck) design is the common Super Wizard that was available back on a lot of Ibanez guitars in the 90's and early 2000's.

I've got five Super Wizards. Not one of them is 19mm at the 12th, but neither are they 20mm. My calipers measure some as just over one and others just slightly less than the other. Hard to call when your talking fractions of a millimeter.
