Looking to to add to my Ibanez guitars. I already have the artist af75 and an older discontinued ex170 series from 1992. Both in mint condition. What can I say? I'm stuck on the Ibanez brand for electrics. (My son also has the rg and s series) I now am looking to purchase the art420. I absolutely am drawn to the feel and sound but more so to the finish. My sytle is blues so the mahogony sustain really carries.

The question that I'm asking here though is what is the difference outside of finish on the art320 and the art420? The price takes a fairly large jump from one to the other and I'm not sure if there are other hardware upgeades that I cannot seem to see. On the ibanez site a side by side declares them equal on paper but then again, the site does not go into the breakdown of low level hardware or manufacture detail.

Any opinions?

Also, dare I ask how does anyone feel when comparing this against other solid body styles of this guitar. (PRS, Gibson, etc...)

I believe that the only difference is the top. You're paying alot extra for the spalted maple top on the 420

Thanks. That was what I was coming too but wasn't sure on that. The price difference is over a 100 for simply a finish so I wanted to be sure I was not missing anything! Funny thing with the 420 also is that it is not in many retail stores. All said they can order but few actually carried it. (Only 1 infact had it)

One of the mom & pop guitar shops in my city has an ART420 on their display floor. It's really a pretty axe. The spalted maple top really looks nice.
