I think the pickups will be the key to your question, not guitars. Stock, the ACH pickups are a limiting factor in Artcore tone. The 83 and 73 are very similar and the bodies are both laminated maple. The ACH pickups sound pretty much the same in both guitars and I can't imagine other pickups being much different.
If you liked the tone of the Seth Lovers, and they gave you the "woody" tone you want back, then I would say save the money for the AS83 and put the Lovers in your current axe. Or, get the 83 and sell the 73 . . . better guitar, the pickups you like, and more cash for you.
