--o to you all.I am a new Ibanez owner,an SZ 720 DAS.This is actually my second 720,the first one had some neck/fretboard issues and was replaced by Ibanez.I'm now quite happy with the new one.Just wondering what gauge strings most of you are using.Mine came with 9's which I replaced with EB Regular Slinky's.I just broke the high e(a 10 gauge)and replaced it with an 11 gauge.I must say that it is sounding better and better.I use the pure nickel Power Slinky's on my Strat,so I guess I'll try those next.Any way,I am really impressed with this guitar.I'm playing through a Peavey classic 30 tube amp,and this thing will really scream,or get sing as sweet as can be.Great guitar! And the price is an added bonus.

um..what did this have to do with string size?

And congrats on the SZ, I can't wait to get mine.

Happily using a Mesa DC-5 Head and Mesa 2x12 with a decent Schecter Spitfire. ^_^

W--ver gauge came from the factory feels right to me..they feel like 10's but supposedly they're 9's. It's probably just me getting used to the scale length. I'll probably end up running Pyramid 10-46 like on my Tele or (past) LP's. I have a few sets of those left from a bulk purchase I made last year.

I also really like the Everly strings in both 9's and 10's depending on the guitar. When my dwindling Pyramid stock runs out, I'll probably stock up on the Everly's which don't seem to move at all at the local Sam Ash.

The Pyramid strings are the shiznit, but I don't really work strings hard enough to justify the expense. I'm just a rhythm --. The pickups are hot enough that I don't think that a "1" gauge difference will be as noticable sound-wise as they would be feel-wise with the shorter scale length that I love, but am still getting accustomed to.
My SZ came with 10's and I think they work perfect with that model. I use 10 guage Elixir strings and couldn't be happier not only do they sound great but they last forever.

i like 10s on my guitar (D'Addarios) but i'd love it if D'Addario made a 10 - 50 set like dunlop, for drop tunings and such.

I use .11's on most of my guitars and .12 on my strat. I find that thicker gauge strings sound better but the .12 is quite difficult to play but it makes my strat sound huge. .11's for me is just about perfect. I don't know how SRV could play for hours using .13's! Although his tech mentioned that he would swap the strings to .11's from time to time when his fingers were sore.

I think mine came with 9's on it...I'm a fan of 9's for the most part, but One time I grabbed some 12's by dean markley...that was an experience, to say the least. I've only ever bought D'addarios except that one time...probably 'cause they're cheaper. Do slinky's last longer?
I can't say that Ernie Balls last any longer than any of the other similar strings, but they sell out quicker than the other brands at the local store I deal with,so I assume that they are fresher. The Pure Nickel strings do not last as long as the nickel coated steel wrapped strings, but they have a softer feel and I think they sound better.I have never tried the coated strings, probably because I am too much of a tight-wad,but am interested in the way they sound.Oh,did I mention that I really like my new SZ?

I am going to Sam Ash right after work...got a hell of a deal on a brand new still in the box SZ720FMTG.
The first thing I'm going to do when I get it home is swap out the strings to D'Addario 10's.

I'm also picking up a Line 6 Vetta II...
Sitting on pins and needles until 5pm
Vetta's are really expensive for Solid States...but the presets are delicious.
