I am GAS-sing for a nice used SR 1005 Prestige, the maple sides one. What I don`t really know is what exactly "prestige" means.
Is it only the neck that is treated better? Does it mean that the whole instrument is build out of a higher grade of selected wood? different production line? Custom shop luthiers?

"The SR Prestige is the pinnacle of playing comfort, smart design, and Japanese craftsmanship. All SR Prestige models are “Made in Japan” by the finest Ibanez craftsmen and from top of the line components"

The name Prestige is given to the best of our best...They are our High end line...everything is made to be better.

They are similar to our regular SR line...but you will be able to tell the difference when holding one next to one in to the regular line.

Hi Matthew, I understood that this model was made in Korea 2007, and that only the Prestiges build after 2009 were made in Japan?

with this particular model you are correct...if this is a 2007 than it is Korean.

Well Matthew, What you said about "the best of the best"and so on; does "Prestige" Korea also mean the same "best of the best" label? otherwise it would not deserve the Prestige label, right?

pretty much...we don't just slap the word Prestige on anything. I would say give it a try and let the bass do the talking for you...that's the only way you can be sure you will be happy with it. Since you already own an SR505 I'm sure this will be a good fit for you.

Did the test, although it was a bit blemished, it looked ok. Playability however was not what I expected.
Maybe my expectations were too high or something. My current main bass, the SR 605 for me is way better. so no deal. But I stumbled in the same shop into an old second hand (in NOS condition!!) Roadstar RB850 `87 Japan, in black. the only blemish is the worn battery compartment screw, but the rest is mint.Took time to think about it, I called the shop back, gonna buy it, next week I will pick it up!! Well, after two years of searching, yesterday finally swapped my FGN jazzbass for a SR1005 EFM Prestige! It`s a December 2005 model, almost no playwear, the guy who had it was very carefull with it. Beautifull sound, perfect playability, this surely confirms that even two of the same instruments can feel and play different! One question about the controls; the MID control has a lower end for the mid frequency, and a upper one that controls the volume of that frequncy in your sound. The lower one does not have a center detent, the upper one does have a center detent, is this originally so? the control cavity screws look like they were not touched, like new. The forme owner bought this like it is now. Anyone have a clue?

thanks Leslie for your reply, I thought as much it was original, the cavity looks totally untouched. I just have to get used to it, have to find my way in how-to-set-it in different situations.

Hi Guys

Maybe someone could clarify for me as I was under the impression that the SR1000 to SR1900 where the Premier line and
the SR2000 / 3000 / 4000 / 5000 etc where the Prestige line - am I incorrect?

Just wondering as to the previous comments!

The newer series(after 2010) uses the SR1### to signify a Premium model, but in the earlier 2000s, there were SR1000 and SR1005's that were Prestige:

You can check out all of the older catalogs here:

Hope this helps,
