Hi everyone,

I have a SR506 and plans to upgrade it. I play in a Progressive Metal band and i want to test a F# B E A D G tuning.
For the strings I found Rotosound Strings (.040 .065 .085 .105 .135 .175) and my question is...

The SR506's neck and bridge can support this kind of tuning and tension?

Thanks in advance,

Tony

I'd say it will probably be able to handle the tension. When I think about the tuning, I feel like the higher 'C' string that is normally on these 6 strings might pull the same amount or more tension than the low F# you plan on using. The string gauge is definitely a bit heavy, but the note is low enough that I feel it probably won't be putting that much strain on the neck.

That being said, having not tried something like this, I don't know for sure. I'm also wondering how well the low F# will sound on that neck. Since it is such a low note, it may be difficult to get the right tension to ring out properly. Again, a more uninformed guess than actual fact, haha.

Hope this helps,
-Bill

You're right I think the 34" scale of the sr506 isn't the best to ring out properly, a fan fretted bass would be a greater choice for sure. Unfortunately I don't have one :(

Thank you Bill for the answer!
