Hey dudes, I came across this Ibanez SG copy and I believe it's from the 70's. The Neck seems pretty legit, but I'm concerned about the serial number. The serial number is H350672. Do you think it's legit? Any help would be great, thank you!

Pictures of this beauty can be seen here:

To me, this looks legitimate. The headstock shape also indicates this is a pre-lawsuit model. The serial number doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Usually the "H" would be the month and then the 2 digits after it would be the year. This was not made in 1935, so this format doesn't really apply here. Most likely, this was made sometime between 1970-1975.

That being said, the neck and body are a little weird. This catalog page shows a 1976 post-lawsuit model that shows an odd plate at the bottom of the neck. Your's does not have this:

This 1975 catalog shows some similar guitars as well that have this odd plate:

The few models I found that didn't have this plate usually had a rounded bottom to the neck like this white one. But your's is squared off:

I'm starting to think that maybe the neck was originally from a different model that was squared off, like this les paul style:

However, the neck and body seem to match paint color. Overall, the neck looks legitimate, and the body also looks legitimate, but with not 100% match in the catalogs, I can't say for sure what it originally was/is.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the info! I too looked over their catalogs from those years but couldn't find the same piece hehe. Maybe it's legit but it really does has some differences...
