I recently dusted off my bass, and with the help of internet research remembered that it's an SR990 from 1998. I am wondering what kind of finish is on this bass and what kind of cleaner/oil I can use to restore the wood? There are a few scratches that have worn through the original finish, and in general the quilted top and fretboard look dry and have lost their shine. I would like to apply an oil or any other product that would bring back some luster. I'm not sure what type of finish it has, so it's hard to look for a product.

These are not photos of my bass, but the model I have.

Thanks.

Bill

As with most all of our wood finish basses, these should have a thin coat of satin poly over the wood to seal and protect it. In which case, an oil wouldn't actually be needed as it wouldn't reach the wood through the satin poly coat. I usually recommend a dry or slightly damp cloth to clean any grime, or any cleaner/polish meant for guitars.
