First of all, i'm not a bass player, i'm a guitarist that sometimes sits in on bass. I recently bought one of the small scale ibby basses and i don't have any idea what to do for strings. Any suggestions would be helpful. I've never actually had to change strings on a bass and definitely not a small one, so i have no friggin idea what i'm doing.

little help please. long as i've been playing and i don't know anything here

When my son was given a small scale bass I didn't know what gauge to put on it. After the first attempt failed, because the lowest 4th string winding kept popping apart at the peg head. I tried the lightest gauge Ernie Ball 2835 Bass strings and they worked just fine.

cqn i cut them like i do guitar strings? i seem to have seen that they have loops at the end and so i can't cut them. so that would mean i have to have a different length for a shorter bass. am i over thinking this? so confuse

Yeah, you pretty much string the bass just like your guitar and cut off the excess once you got the guitar tuned to pitch.

You may need bigger wire cutters than what you use on your guitar, because the bass strings are so much larger in diameter.

Many string manufacturers offer short scale bass strings. These are what you need. Standard scale bass strings are going to be more hassle than they are worth. Get short scale bass strings.
