I celebrated NGD recently, when I finally got my UV7BK!

It's a 1991 model, and as you can see, it's not in the best of shape.

The bad stuff is almost entirely cosmetic. The original Edge 7 trem has some bubbled-up corrosion, and a few small rust spots. There are also a few small finish cracks, two on either side of the neck pocket, and one on the face near the forearm bevel. A good polishing is needed, hopefully, it will brighten up the dingy neck & headstock.

I have alot of good things to say about it. There are no cracks, splits, or damage to the body, or neck/headstock wood. The fretboard is dirty, but more importanly, it's totally scalloped!

If the bridge is original, then it's actually a 90' and not a 91'.

Great score, though, it's begging for a Black guard.

Yeah, it needs a proper "Black/Green/Black guard, also a black trem cover, truss cover, and green Blaze pickup in the bridge.

Here's the neck plate

And the trem is Original Edge 7. Previous owner blocked it, literally! Those are small wooden blocks screwed into the wood!

The 9v battery is for the EMG707 pickup, which I am dumping for a green Blaze, when I find one.

The logo on the headstock confuses me, did they use a decal back then, or is it supposed to be painted on? I'm starting to get a sneaky suspicion that this Universe does not have it's original neck, or it's been heavily repaired.

I removed the Edge trem, and I'm gonna take it into work tomorrow to give it a proper tear-down, and cleaning.

It's a decal.

I've seen a lot of UV's with their logo decals worn either completely off or close too it, so it wouldn't surprise me if the replaced the logo. It's fairly common. Your photo of the headstock does have the decal looking fairly light. The logo on mine is a bit darker.

If you're unsure of the neck, remove it from the guitar and check to see if the heel has the proper markings.

Yeah, I might as well check. What markings should be there? Serial #?

I also took the nut off, and discovered a piece of sandpaper wedged between the neck & the base of the nut!

I have pics of my UV on a few other sites, for parts hunting purposes, and I've gotten PMs from people who ask me if I'd consider selling just the trem!

Is the Original Edge 7 hard to find, or what?

The Original Edge 7 was only used on the VERY early production runs within the first year of production 1990, and thus, is quite rare compared to Lo-Pro Edge 7 equipped UVs.

I haven't been able to get in touch with the guy who sold me the UV, but it's a 91', so I think it originally had a lo pro, and the guy switched it out. The serial number on the plate is too high to be an early edition, unless Ibanez made a ton on them.

So in it's present condition (i hate to keep bothering you guys with boring questions) would it affect the guitar's value if I did put a newer Lo-Pro 7 on it, black/green/black pickguard, re-do the headstock with a proper decal or silkscreened logo, or leave it as is?

The Edge 7 actually did clean up nice after I brought it to work, and completely disassembled, buffed most of the pimples & corrosion off of it, and reinstalled it.

It'll never be completely original again, the scallops guarantee that. Putting in the proper electronics and sorting out the decal and pickguard would probably make it more attractive to a future potential buyer, but collectors and such probably won't ever really go for it, especially if it just has the rather run of the mill Lo-Pro Edge 7.

Just be sure to hold onto that Edge 7.

I don't think I would sell it outright. There is only one other guitar I would consider trading it in for, a JPM100A or B.

After about a dozen or so PMs from people over at Jemsite & the Petrucci forum asking if I'd sell just the Edge 7, I think I'd be a fool to let it go!

Think Interesting. Selling aint allowed here on the board, we all know that. But going for a trade offer of one Ibby for another... Think ... Lets see what the mods think of this one. IMO it aint against the rules, so it might fly.
My Ibby's:
1975 2845 western acoustic
2006 RGTHRG2 N.Y. City XI (Exotic)
2009 RGA32 MOL

Non-Ibby's:

Finally got around to starting the deep restoration my UV so badly needs!

Removed the neck, and here are the markings I found on it, and the body pocket.

The body has some kind of paper shim taped behind the aft-most screw holes. I also have no clue as to what the "C" and the "N" stamps mean.
