Its not my fault that you enter in the bass forums and post guitars instead&nbsp;<img src="smileys/smiley11.gif" border="0"> .... so this might turn out a Bass Vs Guitar&nbsp;<img src="smileys/smiley18.gif" border="0"> topic hehe... I prefer basses all the way!&nbsp;<img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"><span ="bold"><br><br>mustbampeg: what model is that? SR1000?<br></span>

I think the problem was that Ibby didnt distinguish between the two ''Prestige'' forums. So when you see ''Active Topics'' you cant tell whether its the bass or guitar section - Ahem, mods... Maybe just add ''guitar'' and ''bass'' to the prestige subsections. It is kind of confusing.... <IMG src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0">&nbsp;

I have to say. That is disturbing on a level that goes beyond the fundamental. Looks like something you MIGHT see at a Gwar show. Though even they might give that one a second thought.... <IMG src="smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0">&nbsp;<IMG src="smileys/smiley11.gif" border="0">

Well, yesterday I finally got the chance to test a SR Prestige (SR1005EWN) in a local guitar shop (we don't get 'em too often here).

It's a significant difference between this and the series models:

1. the looks: the finish was incredible, very careful crafted, without any flaw; even the pickups have a shaped contour so they would follow the general curve of the body. Perfectly balanced. To keep it short, it looked even better than in the presentation photos. The only negative point: the control knobs - too small and made of cheap plastic; they look quite flimsy and I seriously doubt they can take a good "beating" (making the SR Prestige a "not so good to gig all year long with" bass). But of course, you can replace 'em.

2. the sound: as expected, it sounds top class. Very balanced, crystal clear, very rich in harmonics, excellent sustain. The neck felt somehow different from the series basses I'm used to (it's thicker than a 505's yet similar to a 905's), but in the same time very comfortable, especially considering it was a 5er. The B string was tight, clear, and perfectly equal to the other strings (as you know, many 5ers - especially the cheaper ones - do have a problem with getting their B to sound as good and equal as the other strings) - the neck manages to maintain the B string in optimal tension, so it wouldn't sound floppy and loose as the majority of 34 scale 5ers. The pickups work really good and they're dead silent, so you can say bye bye to your noise reduction unit :) The Bartolini EQ is very smooth and responsive - any knob tweaking, no matter how small, will affect the tone. When hearing this bass through an amp you get the impression the sound was compressed, enhanced and mastered like in a studio recording, with all the frequencies in the right place; you won't get a crude, raw sound out of this bass. It's not called Prestige for nothing.

Very impressive instrument, indeed!
