I originally purchased the walnut SR first. I kept seeing the flamed maple top SR a lot. It kept taunting me so I bought that one too. The necks are easy to play on especially for those with smaller hands. It's hard not to get spoiled by their sound. The flamed maple top, in my opinion, has a lot more bite to it. The only thing I dislike is when I first came across the SR series they used to come with metal knobs but now Ibanez is putting these nasty black plasitc knobs on there. But oh well, I can just order the metal ones and replace them later.

Just picked this one up used...barely used I should say. It was used for 2 months before it was traded in and it's in perfect shape - not a mark on it. Got a great deal on it and negotiated a full setup and set of DR Hi Beams. I've always loved the way SRs played and they've always sounded good, but even though this is my 4th SR, it's definitely the best. I like the cord jack being on the side instead of the top and I like the slightly thicker Prestige neck over the ultra-thin standard SR neck. I'm still dialing in the sound, but the warmth of the walnut top combined with the piano-like sound of the DR strings really is a powerful all around sound - perfect for what I do.

I do notice that the output is quite a bit lower than my Carvin with the twin J style stacked humbucker H50S pickups, so when I switch between them, I just have to turn the input sensitivity up for the SR1005. I play it through a Peavey BAM 2X10 combo and a custom built 2X12 cabinet with Carvin NEO 12" speakers in it. It's a powerhouse rig and it's pretty much my dream bass sound. I'll probably add a 505 as a backup, but if I come across a 1005 flamed maple I might pick that up instead.

Odd that you say this. I notice the Exact opposite with my Carvin. I need to boost volume when playing my Carvin, which has Jazz style pick-ups.
