that the vari mid 3 band EQ was dropped within the last couple years? i only now noticed....

pretty bad move, imho, as it was one of the best features about BTBs... sometimes i wish my btb1006 had this eq. like the 45x and 55x series did.. bart pups plus vari mid eq.

i have an older btb i think it's a 455dxqm or 455xqm hard to tell with some models considering the cheap ones model numbers don't mean crap hah the one listed is w760102............which i don't understand at all but it's the quilted maple top in the dark grey almost purple/black color with bartolini mk1's which i have always seen listed as 455dxqm . so that variable mid knob is shorting on my bass and i can find it in the parts catalog but i am having troubles finding out how to buy it in the store.....

Yeah, the variable mid was nice. I've been wondering how feasible it would be to replace the mid freq switch on a in a BTB676fntf (250Hz to 600Hz) with a knob, like the older models have.

Pretty bad preamp if you ask me, and also the pickups are low quality. I installed some active MEC pups on a BTB 556...with spectacular results. The Barts are licensed, made in Korea...Also the mahogany in them is low quality...

Despite the Low Quality claim on the VariMid and the Barts, I get plenty of compliments on the tone of my basses, whether the 455 and 456, and the 1006.

The most important thing is that it sounds in such a way that inspired the player and the listener.

Who wouldda thunk that SRV decried high quality cords for his recordings and wanted what the cheap Radio Shack Coil cord gave him?

I for one am going to run with these as far as they will take me, because there is always something better, and that comes from a guy who gave up on one $5K Instrument to own 4 of these.

Inspiration is not a calculation. Music is not a science. Computer simulations of music are not the same as Ensemble.
