hi all
my ew20 only gives about half its original volume when plugged into pa
this happened instantly not a gradual decline have done batterys tried new lead
for example if other guitar is on 6 on the pa my ibanez would be up to 10 to get same volume
this means the whole band is limited to the volume available from my guitar
any help would be nice as i love the guitar it has a beautifull sound much better than the takamine we use!!

cheers :)

Is this using the XLR?

Have you tried the additional input?

If there is a difference in output, it sounds like this should be isolated to the battery box/output combo box.

I'd recommend contacting the UK distribution center (contact us link on the Ibby website) for further instruction. They can most likely direct you to a service center for a diagnosis and potentially warranty repair.

I just bought a used EW20 from Guitar center. Plays great but when I got it home I get no to little output. Tried both standard cable and XLR, only get slight sound if I put amp on max volume. Also get white noise. Tuner sort of works but does not seem to detect the sound well. Is this a preamp problem or pickup problem? I see many people have posted similar posts..what is wrong with these SRTn preamps?

Just an update. After investigating UTS pickup I decided to take mine out and inspect it.
It seemed intact but there was some dust under the saddle. I cleaned it up and put it back and now I have 4-5 times the volume levels I had before, its not perfect but much better. This suggest alot of these post with low volume issues or humm could all be pickup problems. New pickups from B-band are only $43, so it is a fairly cheap fix. Does these pickup go bad and are these the symptoms of a faulty pickup?

My experience with volume and tuner issues has usually been the result of an improper fitting saddle. I have found that the bottom of the saddle was not straight or that there were shims placed on top of the pickup instead of below the pickup. And only once I found that I had to disconnect and reconnect the pickup lead to the preamp to get it to work. To check the saddle you have to remove it from the bridge and place it on a flat surface to see if the entire length sits perfectly flat with no light showing along the bottom edge of the saddle.
