Just saw this guitar on Ebay and wanted to know if it was a fake. I couldn't find any other prestige models that looked like this one?

Edit:

I already purchased it Shifty If it's fake I can always just file a claim and get my cash back. If not it looks like a great deal on a "new" 2004 Iby Prestige with DiMarzios in it.

It has a serial number F0425157 but I have no clue what model number RG it is.

Thanks to anyone that can tell me anything else about this guitar good or bad....

Here's all the pics

That guitar looks very close to an RG1450:

But it's the wrong bridge in there- 1450 sports an Edge Pro bridge... yours look like an Edge III...

Def an Edge-3 bridge. If you like it... great, you got a Prestige Neck with Gotoh tuners, and Dimarzio pups, hopefully at a really good price. Highly unlikely somone took out an edge pro for an Edge-3, but anything is possible. I would pull of the neck and check the neck pocket to ensure it is a Prestige Body and those are in fact dimarzio pups and they were not wired with dental floss...otherwise, I would file a claim or ask for reduced price. Ebay hates this kind of stuff, and Ibanez likes it even less.

Thanks for the info,

Looks like a different neck than the RG 1450 also. The Edge Pro and Edge III aren't interchangeable are they? If not then I doubt the body is a Prestige. Ibanez doesn't put the Edge III's on Prestige models do they? It's no worry if it's not a true Prestige. The listing specifically said it was a Prestige as well as new and never played so getting my money back wouldn't be a problem if it's not right.

Thanks again and any more info anyone can dig up would be greatly appreciated...

AFAIK, the edge and edge pro are drop in replaceable. however, I'd call shenanigans ... every pic of a 1450 that I've seen has shown the 1450 with the 5 piece neck. I don't see walnut stripes, so it's not 5 piece. another thing is the large dot inlays. prestige necks don't have those size or material. they use super tiny abalone inlay IIRC

I won't discount that it's a good guitar or make the accusation that it's a chibanez until you start sniffing around a little more thoroughly. but there's enough major things that don't match up that if I have to make a judgement call then I say it's as fake as a stripper's tits are. going to check any relevant catalogs as this is a 2010 model from what I can dig up(also have had issues in finding it in catalogs as well FWIW)

tl;dr: wrong trem(should be edge zero), wrong pickup colours on south coil bobbins(should be all black), wrong neck construction given the time this guitar was apparently made(2010), wrong vol and tone knobs (easily replaced but still, wrong ones). gutiar is most likely fake. making the assumption that it's not fake means that there's been serious repairing/swapping of parts done, but given what's "missing" that's less likely than the chibanez theory

The serial number F0425157 on the back of the head stock indicates it is a 2004 and I found 2004 necks in the catalog with the same dots, just not a white body w/ red/black dimarzio's which could be drop ins anyway. Didn't see any Edge III's though.

The 2004 RG1520GKBK has the same neck 3 piece neck...

It's looking like it's just an RG body w/ the cheap ass Edge III and a Prestige neck slapped on.

a) If you got a good price and like the way it plays/sounds then that is cool. But it looks put together or heavily modded.

b) You have good taste in sports teams, what depressing loss we suffered today eh?

Prestige neck for sure, perhaps from a 1570/1550. The body is most likley from a 2010 or 2011 indo RG350.

Sorry about your loss. I'm not a 9ers fan, but I was a HUGE Joe Montana fan when I was a kid so I was routing for them. The pics are from the sellers listing, which were blown up and clearer when I posted them here.

Fortunately I was able to contact the seller before he shipped it and he's refunding my money. At least now I know what bridges go on which models thanks to the knowledgeable crowd here!

Thanks again everyone for the invaluable info! Maybe when I get my "real" Prestige I'll post up pics!

You were right! The seller refunded my money and then relisted it as "Made in Japan this applies to the neck and not the body. The body is a rg350 made in Korea."

I wish people weren't so damn dishonest...

Yes the case was supposed to be included. Luckily the transaction was cancelled and I didn't have to deal with the hassle of filing a claim or returning it. I did pick up a mint 1992 RG550 DX in Purple Neon with a REAL Lo Pro Bridge for a good deal so I'm more than happy now!

Thanks again for all the help from everyone. I have learned a lot about Ibanez guitars over the last couple days, and I didn't get scammed because of you guys!

Yeah I did the guitar dater check too. The seller slapped a Prestige neck on an RG350 body and tried to pass it off as a true Prestige until, with the help of these awesome forum members, I called him on it!!!.

He then refunded my money and relisted the guitar on Ebay for what it really is. The seller was trying to pull a scam.
