Hi guys

I've found this guitar for cheap at a local flea market many years ago; it looks like an AR50 but what throw me off is

- different knobs
- has 3 pickups!

The guitar plays great; I had it for such long time and never looked it up to see what model was it, but recently I became curious so I started to investigate.

I've found an old catalog from 1982, and the guitar seems to be a 1982 AR50 (the serial also confirm the year: H82 should be 8/82), but has 3 pick ups (2 of them have the 3 screw cover, typical for that year, but the middle one has a 2 screw cover, plus was cut off on a corner; they look like super 70s but I am not sure since there is no marking or label on them)

I am curious to know if this is a custom made by someone that just decided to kill the guitar and add extra pickup, knobs and change the knobs themselves, or if there was a model that is like this one...has anyone seen anything like this? Should I keep it and restore it ?

Attached the link to the picture

Hmmm - i can't see a picture unfortunately but I know of no 3 pup artist. It sounds very much like a mod to me. Brrrrr.... look under the middle pup to see what has been hacked out.

Those extra knobs does not look like somthing a factory would put there. I'm pretty sure that is just a modded AR50

Your guitar is an AR50 that has been modified.

It also needs a setup.

Thanks for your reply!

So basically it is not a factory but a mod....means that they killed the guitar and now is worth nothing?

That sucks....

As with anything else, it is worth whatever someone else is willing to pay you for it.

The AR50 was a great guitar. If you like your guitar that is all that matters. If you don't like it and plan to throw it away because you think it isn't worth anything, send me a PM.

Indeed I get your point....I was just thinking if the guitar gain value with time or not....so I know if I should restore it (has a lot of dings and the paint is coming off, plus the electronic requirers probably a good workout) or leave it as is and make it vintage :)

For sure I would not throw it away; plays nicely and is not like I feel that is a piece of junk; once that it gets to the point where i gotta figure out if i wanna fix it or not I may consider at that point the pros and cons and maybe invest in a different guitar :)

Thanks for your comments!

I wouldn't restore it. I like it the way it is. Just repair whatever is broken on it and get busy rockin'.
