Hi All, I am new to this site and to Ibanez guitars. The John Schofield Ibanez story got my interest in checking out the line up. Was looking for a hollowbody
like an Epi Casino, with P90 p'ups. Was in a store and saw an ASR70a few years back - fully hollow with P90 style p"ups. I played it and was quite taken with it. I am an acoustic guy
looking for an inexpensive way to get into Hollow Electric without parting with 3-4$K . While I did not buy it, the experience stayed with me (You all know what that';s like)

Recently I decided to add more electric sounds to my program and sought out an ASR70 - only to discover it is not made any more. I WAS SHOCKED. Ibanez was on to something good here.
I know some did not like the sunburst yellow/orange/black combo - but that is an easy change for a Co. like Ibanez. . Anyway, my first good guitar was a '61 Melody Maker with the same finish - so I am likely one of the rare one's that really like this finish. I picked one up used from a store in British Columbia - and shipped it to Ontario. I really like this guitar. Might change the nut sooner rather than later ( I do that with EVERY guitar)

I would love to know:

1/ Why did production stop? Is this now a rare guitar?

2/ Has anyone looked at the ASR70 pickups - Ibanez is pretty careful to NOT call them P90's.

3/ Has anyone swapped the pickups out for something else ( I am looking to keep the P90 tone, which this ax has, but with a cleaner output

I liked the ASR70 as well! I'm not sure why production stopped, but I do know that Ibanez changes their models quite a bit, so it doesn't really surprise me. Especially since this was something a little different than what we normally do. I don't think there was a specific reason why they discontinued it, other than to make room for other new models.

The pickups sounded decent for the few times I played them, but I'm not sure how close they would be to P90s. Hopefully someone else can chime in if they know??

Hope this helps a little!
