I just bought a like new AR720 and plugged it into an amp for the first time. Everything seems to work well except when I set the PUP selector to the middle position it only outputs from the neck pickup. (I believe this because there is no output if the neck volume is off and the bridge volume is maxed when the pup selector is set to the middle position. Otherwise the PUP selector works correctly. If I switch to the lower bridge pickup position, it only outputs the bridge PUP. If I switch to the upper neck PUP position, only the neck PUP outputs. This is my first electric guitar so am I doing something wrong?

The guitar really is like new. The original owner only used the guitar a couple of times and it still has the factory protective plastic on the covers on the back of the body. I'm good with electronics and soldering so I am tempted to take of the PUP switch cover and check the soldering but I thought I should ask here first.

Probably my bad. If I turn up the bridge volume just a little everything works as I imagined it should. I suspect the neck volume is a bit of a master volume in the middle position, maybe so that all volume can be turned off quickly with one knob.

Most guitars with two pickups, two volume controls and two tone controls are wirrd in such a way that either volume control can be used as a master volume. This is normal.
